The Midwest Region is the world's leader in growing crops. It is known as the "Bread Basket" and "Corn Belt". The resources the Midwest is known for is dairy products such as milk and cheese, wheat, corn, cranberries, soybeans, cattle, pigs, and other livestock.
1803 - Louisiana Purchase -Land that the U.S. bought from France which doubled the see of the United States. -Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd president, bought the land from France -The land gained is in between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains -The United States bought the land to have control over the trade in New Orleans and the Mississippi River
1804-1806 - Lewis and Clark Exploration -Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark to explore the new land bought from France (Louisiana Purchase)
1935, April 14 - Dust Bowl -Known as Black Sunday -Dust storm that got to be about 10,000 feet high -Dust was everywhere covering homes and cars -Causes: farmers transforming prairies into farm land; high temperatures and drought caused the crops to die and the land to become hard and dry. 1941- Mount Rushmore completion -Construction began in 1927 -Features four U.S. presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln -Located in Black Hills, South Dakota
